Alon and I have been discussing a “2.2” version of the API. The key points of this release would be:
- Move to JSON only
- Not introduce any new real ‘features’
per-say
- Cleanup the data structure
- Cleanup the URL formats
Why would we introduce this with almost no new features? Well, quite simply so we can then focus on doing some performance work. 2.1 makes up 90%+ of our server load and spending any time working on an old antiquated API is a waste of time. With a more solid, future proof version of our existing API we can also move to adding things like TV should we decide to.
This ticket exists for us to discuss these points.

XBMC has asked for the following:
- returning the trailer link in Movie.imdbLookup
- trailer fallback to english language in case there's no trailer available in the translated result
- support for movie collections in Movie.getInfo (and maybe even in Movie.imdbLookup)
