Via Tender: Person cast search & accented characters
Reported by Travis Bell | May 29th, 2012 @ 08:43 AM | in Minority Report (closed)
Assigned to Tender discussion #522. As reported in Tender:
I've been finding duplicates in the names of actors, where accents are involved, for exemple:
Vítor Norte (acute accent on the i) versus Vitor Norte (no accent)When a contributor is entering the name of an actor, adding to the cast of a film, a popdown list displays a few options.
If the contributor finds the name he wants on that list, he uses it. Otherwise he creates a new one.The problem seems to be that such list is not displaying both accented and unaccented characters.
In the example above, the correct spelling is Vítor, with the accute accent. If the contributor spells it without the accent, the name Vítor Norte (accented) does not show up as an option. The tendency will be to create a new actor, causing not only a duplication, but also a misspelt. However, if searching the website, the seach returns both the accented and unaccented versions.

(Elsewhere I've already requested the deletion of 617605)Is it possible to have the crew and the cast popdown lists reacting the same way as the website search?
